CHALLENGE ONE:
This week you've been learning about how to classify animals. You have looked at 3 of the groups: INSECTS, FISH, REPTILES.
Today, you will be learning about AMPHIBIANS! This is a tricky group because these animals share a lot of the same characteristics as REPTILES. Watch the videos to learn more about amphibians. How are amphibians different than reptiles?

CHALLENGE ONE:
It's really important to practise addition and subtraction basic facts to 10 as well as all doubles up to 9+9. By the end of Grade 2, students are expected to learn these by heart (recall within 3 seconds). In this slide show, there are also questions like 10 + 3, 10 + 5, 7 + 10, etc... These are important to know as well!
Use this power point (click on file below) as a slide show to practise the facts. It starts with the easier ones and gets harder and harder. Just do the slides that are a GOOD FIT for you!! You can do the other ones later.
Try playing the game Dino Math Lines found on ABCya. This is an excellent game to play to practise math facts!

Watch the Science video on mushrooms (click on the button to the right).
Answer these questions:
1. How can you tell if a mushroom is poisonous?
2. What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have?
3. There are so many poisonous mushrooms in the world! But why? Why do you think it might help a mushroom to be poisonous? There are also lots of mushrooms that look poisonous, but aren’t. Why do they look so similar? Draw or write your ideas about why harmless mushrooms might look poisonous

CHALLENGE ONE: Mrs. Werbicki has made 4 videos demonstrating 4 different strategies students can use when adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. Today, the strategy is to draw a picture of base ten rods and ones. Please pause the video whenever needed and use it to help your child solve these math questions. As this is a math concept we teach throughout many months (February - June), it might be too difficult right now for your child. Please do not feel obligated to work through these, but if you do want to, please make sure to help your child. Please click on the button below which will take you to an amazing website that has virtual math manipulatives and tools to assist in solving equations. Try out these questions and then make up your own if you wish to do more: 17 + 32 49 - 17 45 + 23 66 - 24 38 + 51 |

CHALLENGE TWO:
Watch the science video on: Can Animals laugh. (Click on the button below)
Do you think animals can laugh? Why do you think that?
Does this video make you curious about anything else? What other questions do you have about animals?
Try this experiment. Tell a friend a joke — and laugh out loud when you get to the funny part. Now tell another friend the same joke — but don’t laugh. Scientists say that people often laugh when they see someone else laughing. Do you think scientists are right about that? (If you need a joke, here’s our favorite: What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? (A carrot).)
